This family came from Scotland to Pennyslvania and does not seem to be closely related to David McNutt's family. The information below is drawn from the family trees on the Ancestry.com site rather than my own research.
1. Robert MCNUTT was born in 1795 in , , Scotland. He died on 18 Sep 1835 in Shilo, Richland, Ohio. |
Robert married Agnes COWELL. Agnes was born in 1796 in , Somerset, Pennsylvania. She died on 24 Nov 1856 in , Barry, Michigan. |
They had the following children.
Although I have no proof, the death of Agnes Cowell
MCNUTT in Barry County, Michigan in 1856 makes me think that three
McNutts who appear in the 1850 census of Irwin, Barry County, Michigan may also
be part of this family (especially since they also had ties to Huron County,
Ohio):
1. James MCNUTT was born abt. 1820 in
Pennsylvania. He married Eunice J. Dowd on 14 Dec. 1841 in Huron County, Ohio.
Surname indexed as McNatt in the census.
2. Polly MCNUTT
was born 30 Jun 1827 in Pennsylvania; died 27 Oct 1827 in Oceana County,
Michigan. She married Garrett B. Tuttle on 27 Aug 1845 in Huron County,
Ohio, who must have died soon thereafter as his name doesn't appear in later
records. As Polly Tuttle, she married John Burr on 3 Mar 1847 in Huron County,
Ohio. She and John lived next door to James, Eunice and William McNutt in the
census (surname indexed as Bun).
3. William MCNUTT was born
14 Dec 1828, Pennsylvania; died 26 Jan 1908 in Gratiot County, Michigan. He was
living with James and Eunice in the census. On 20 Oct 1853, he went to
Huron County, Ohio to marry Fidelia Hofstatter.
